Club History...
The Whalers officially made an application to join the Australian Rules SuperRules competition through Peter Staples on the 15th of November 1999.
The club was loosely aligned with the Scarborough Amateur Football club and so the original jumper was green, gold and black and the home ground Millington Reserve (our jumper is now Navy and our home ground is Abbett Park in Scarborough).
There were around 25 players over the age of 35 interested in forming the original team, mostly made up of ex-Scarborough players who still had a hankering to pull on the boots, have soem fun and keep fit.
The Whalers had a great year for such a young club in 2000 with coach and former AFL & WAFL star Warren Dean at the helm (Warren was also coach in 2001).
2001 saw the Whalers play their first twilight game and go through the season undefeated and this was also the year that our jumper was changed to Navy with a Silver/Grey Whale motif.
In 2002 the Whalers were the first ever Australian Rules Football team to compete in the Bali 9's football competition. Competing against players much fitter and younger, the Whalers performed admirably against nations such as Hong Kong, Bali and Malaysia, even managing a couple of wins and a narrow loss (see pics below).
The Whalers now boasts one of the largest player groups in the Masters League fielding both a Supers side and a Masters side every fortnight.
